PESHAWAR: Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) representative in Pakistan, Rebekah Bell, met Member National Assembly Nafeesa Khattak and Deputy Commissioner Khyber Mansoor Khattak to discuss strengthening agriculture.
The parties discussed the rural market opportunities for farmers in the newly merged districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the challenges faced by farmers and traders in Khyber whose markets are in Afghanistan.
It was highlighted that FAO will continue to work with the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and development partners to strengthen the economy in the newly merged districts by improving commercial agriculture production and businesses as well as developing better cross-border market linkages for farmers and traders. ....

Idaho Governor Signs Bill Giving Rural Areas More Say in Ballot Initiatives
Idaho Gov. Brad Little, a Republican, signed a bill on Saturday raising the bar for ballot initiatives that effectively give rural residents a greater say in shaping the state’s legal landscape.
By signing Senate Bill 110, Little implemented a change to Idaho’s ballot initiative framework, which previously required signatures from six percent of voters in 18 legislative districts but now needs six percent from all 35 of the state’s districts for new legislation to be placed on the ballot for a popular vote. While the overall number of signatures needed to get an initiative on the ballot remains the same, they will need to be collected from a much wider area, effectively giving urban centers less clout. ....

More than 80 projects funded under the Regional Connectivity Program will provide people in Regional Australia access to improved broadband services and data delivering fast, affordable and reliable connectivity.
Australia s Federal Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications has announced that regional communities are set to benefit from improved connectivity, with the announcement of 81 telecommunications infrastructure projects will share in more than $90 million in funding under the Regional Connectivity Program (RCP).
The Regional Connectivity Program (the RCP) is providing $90.3 million (GST inclusive) in Commonwealth funding for 81 place-based telecommunications infrastructure projects across regional, rural and remote Australia. ....

A group of about 35 set off on the annual Rural Women Walk the World event in high spirits on April 18.
They left Brenda and Andy Collins house in Warrengate Rd, near Fordell, intending to return there for afternoon tea after a 14km walk across farms on mainly flat ground.
Landowner permissions were obtained by Brenda Collins and the route would take in historic sites, Andy Collins said. ....
