Over the course of its last two meetings, the Gila County Board of Supervisors has refined what it hopes to get help with from the federal government. At its Feb. 16 meeting it approved a letter to send to Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) listing items of interest the BOS discussed with him in a recent online meeting. This week, at the Feb. 23 work session the BOS had a telephonic meeting with federal lobbyist Patricia Power of Bose Public Affairs Group. Each one provided Power with the items with which they were concerned and Power offered them an update on what to expect from lawmakers in Washington, D.C. over the next few weeks and months. ....
The Gila County Board of Supervisors and members of county staff and guests gathered at 707 S. Colcord Road in Payson Feb. 16. The get-together was for the ground-breaking ceremony for the $5.5 million county Community Multi-Purpose Complex to be built between the county court facility and the Payson post office. âThe Payson building is going to be wonderful and marvelous,â said Dist. 1 Supervisor Steve Christensen, who represents most of Payson. After the Roundup ran a rendering of the building in January, there were numerous comments by residents on Facebook that took issue of the looks of the building. Discussing those comments, Christensen said, âThere have been concerns, but I have been meeting with the public and with Homero (Vela, assistant county manager, who has been overseeing all the facility improvement projects) and Daren (Frank, facilities manager).â ....
The Gila County Board of Supervisors was to meet Jan. 26 in a work session, but they canceled it due to the weather. The agenda included preparations to redistrict the county based on the 2020 Gila County Census. The purpose of the work session was to review and discuss the redistricting process, including key dates along the process. Redistricting is drawing new congressional and state legislative district boundaries. Upon completion of the 2020 census, Arizona will draft and enact new district maps. Arizonaâs nine United States representatives and 90 state legislators are all elected from political divisions called districts. District lines are redrawn every 10 years following completion of the United States census. ....
