RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) Many North Carolina legislators say it s still the right time to seek making daylight saving time permanent in the state, advancing a House measure Tuesday to move clocks up an hour for good if Congress allows it.
A House committee voted unanimously for a measure like one that passed the chamber by a comfortable margin two years ago but idled in the Senate.
The legislation would end the twice-annual time shift moving ahead an hour in mid-March and falling back an hour to standard time in early November but only if Congress passes a federal law allowing states to observe daylight saving year-round. Such legislation has been filed on Capitol Hill. Currently states may opt out of observing daylight saving time. Hawaii and most of Arizona don t currently participate. ....

‘Systemic racism’: Does it even exist?
Troy Williams
Systemic racism has become the operative phrase in a lot of political circles these days. Systemic racism, also called “institutional” racism, was coined and first used by Stokely Carmichael in 1967.

Carmichael later became frustrated with the Civil Rights Movement, particularly Dr. Martin Luther King’s nonviolent philosophy. He changed his name to Kwame Ture, became active in the African liberation movement, and urged people worldwide to fight against white imperialism. I savor in the irony that Amer ....

Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson says there's no 'systemic racism' in America during clash with Democrats over new social studies standards

Republican appointees to the State Board of Education (SBE) fired a volley of criticism at the state’s new social studies standards Wednesday, charging that the language in the revision is “divisive” and “politically charged.”
Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson led the attack, doubling down on complaints he made earlier this month about the new standards, which the state board could approve next week.
Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson
“I do not like the tone of these standards, what’s written in them,” Robinson said during a special board meeting Wednesday. “I think they’re politically charged. I think they’re divisive, and I think that they, quite frankly, smack of a lot of leftist dogma.” ....
