Coconino National Forest fire managers are planning two large prescribed burns starting next week. Ignitions are planned on the Peaks Project either Wednesday or Thursday and will last for three-to-ten days. The burns will take place about 15 miles north of Flagstaff, just northeast of the San Francisco Peaks. The burn is divided into seven separate sections and will burn just over 41-hundred acres total. Smoke should move to the northeast and could settle into areas along Highway 89 as well as Deadman Wash. The 13-thousand acre Upper Beaver Creek Project is planned to start next Thursday and last possibly until May 15th. The area is about 15 miles northwest of Clints Well near Stoneman Lake. KAFF News Authorities Arrest Kidnapping Suspect South Of Flagstaff Tuesday Authorities arrested a kidnapping suspect south of Flagstaff Tuesday. Coconino County Sheriff’s deputies were attempting to find a male suspect and a female victim, who was reportedly forced into a vehicle along Interstate-17 in the late morning hours. At around noon, CCSO received a call from the Mustang Gas Station in Clints Well along Highway 87, reporting the vehicle from the incident on I-17 was in the area. The caller told officials a female passenger was seen strapped, or tied, to the front passenger seat in a white-colored four-door Jeep Wrangler. The caller followed the Jeep to a forest service road. Deputies from Coconino and Navajo counties, as well as a DPS helicopter, looked for the vehicle, which was found later in the evening.
