SPRINGFIELD, Ore. The Springfield Economic Development Agency approved the purchase of a half-acre of the private property Monday night.
The board gave the green light for the city manager to negotiate the purchase of the land for no more than $688,000. This property is in the same area where two developers are bidding to build along the Willamette River waterfront. The property will then be sold to the developers for construction. ....

The Right Kind of Change in Springfield

The people of Springfield will be impacted by an important decision that the Springfield Economic Development Agency (SEDA) has to make and we must carefully consider the long-term effects of this decision. That includes looking at who does or doesn’t benefit from it.
Both proposals that came before SEDA last week are bold in scale, no doubt. While there has been a steady drumbeat of interest in developing this riverfront land over the last decade, what is noteworthy is that these two proposals have come to SEDA outside of a formal solicitation process. While on the surface, both of these proposals seem to be bringing Springfield into a stronger economic future, we must also take into account what message Springfield is sending to future developments do we invest in our community or do we invest in the wealthy? ....

Cars fly by on Franklin Boulevard, whooshing through Glenwood, some occasionally honking in support of the dozen demonstrators in front of Camp Putt Adventure Golf Park on April 11. The demonstrators are Glenwood residents, some property owners, some renters, holding signs that say “Parks not hotels” and “Rivers over profit.”
Just a few hundred steps away is the site of a potential 20-story hotel complex that would occupy Willamette riverfront property, across from Island Park. The residents say they’re upset the current proposals could impact their neighborhood and the Willamette River and the city of Springfield hadn’t informed them about the projects, either. ....

Developers vying for chance to transform riverfront in Glenwood

Two developers hope for the chance to transform space along the Willamette River in Glenwood.
Glenwood Development, LLC, and LOCALIS Partners presented their plans to transform city-owned property along Franklin Boulevard on Monday night during a meeting of the Springfield Economic Development Agency.
One has proposed a development that would include the largest hotel and conference center between Portland and San Francisco.
The other has partnered with nearby property owners to propose a sports-anchored development that would help two local teams move up to a higher league of play and create a place for people to live, work and play. ....

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. The Springfield Economic Development Agency heard two proposals to revitalize a portion of the Glenwood area Monday night.
Glenwood Developmen LLC and Localis Partners each presented their vision of a piece of land along Franklin Boulevard and the Willamette River. Glenwood Development LLC said they would buy the 32-acre city-owned property and build a 20-story 378 room hotel complex, an 85,000 square foot conference room and a 30,000 square foot plaza between the hotel complex and the Southbank of the Willamette River. They said the total cost would be anywhere from $311 million to $340 million. Developers plan to finish the project all at once and open the property in early 2025 ....
