The Irish fishing industry stands to lose stocks worth an estimated £37million-a-year by 2026 due to a 15 percent reduction in fish quotas as a result of the Brexit deal. Taskforce could become a talking shop, fishing industry says


Irish fishermen say they are concerned a taskforce set up to support coastal communities after Brexit will become a “talking shop”.
Representatives from the fishing industry said the Brexit trade agreement reached on Christmas Eve has “failed” Irish fishermen and is a “bad fisheries deal”.
Under the terms of the Brexit agreement, Irish fleets will have to give back 25% of fish caught in UK waters.
Minister for Agriculture Charlie McConalogue said that after meeting fishing groups, he will set up a taskforce to seek recommendations on how to support the sector.
The losses due to Brexit will ensure a large portion of the Irish fishing fleet will be unviable ....

Medals for business graduates


Graduates from Wexford Campus s Aquabusiness course have received their diplomas following a year which forced them to adapt to a new style of learning.
The only academic course of its kind in the country, the HDip in Aquabusiness was launched in 2018 and is specifically tailored for the next generation of seafood producers, managers and entrepreneurs.
The course has been popular with students from the beginning and Seamus O Flaherty, who received this year s Brendan O Kelly Memorial Medal as the first in class, said, It has a good mix of general business principles and knowledge, coupled with marine specific case studies.
