AUSTIN, Texas (CN) – Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed into law Wednesday evening a ban on reality television crews filming police, two years after Black motorist Javier Ambler died following a car chase captured by “Live PD” cameras.
Titled Javier Ambler’s Law, House Bill 54 went into effect immediately. The bill received bipartisan support in the Republican-controlled Texas Legislature, passing the House of Representatives 110-34 and the Senate 27-3. ....

Pre-pandemic, before my dining room replaced my office space, three large maps of Texas hung on the wall above my desk. I didn t place them there simply as a testament to my deep Texas pride. Each 4-by-4-foot map had hundreds of colorful lines that at first glance might seem arbitrary but in reality, represented the numerous and misshapen districts that break up Texas.
All in all, Texas has 36 congressional districts, 31 state senate districts, and 150 state house districts. These districts are drawn by the Texas Legislature every 10 years. They determine who represents you, and in turn, can impact the power of your vote. ....
