WASHINGTON: A bipartisan bill to promote lasting peace and generate economic benefits for Pakistan and Afghanistan has been introduced in the US Senate.
The legislation titled Pakistan-Afghanistan Economic Development Act aims to establish Reconstruction Opportunity Zones in Afghanistan and Pakistan s border regions to allow textile and apparel goods from those areas to enter the US duty-free, ultimately generating economic benefits for Afghanistan and Pakistan. The bipartisan bill was introduced by Democrat Senators Van Hollen, Maria Cantwell and Republican Senator Todd Young.

WASHINGTON/ LAHORE: US senators have introduced a bipartisan bill to promote and generate economic benefits for Pakistan and Afghanistan.
The bill is called the Pakistan-Afghanistan Economic Development Act . The legislation proposes the set up of a reconstruction opportunity zones along Pak-Afghan border areas.
“The bill would establish Reconstruction Opportunity Zones (ROZs) in Afghanistan and Pakistan’s border regions to allow certain products from these areas to enter the US duty-free,” a statement read. ....

U.S. Senate panel to hold hearing on tech bill to combat China

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -The U.S. Senate Commerce Committee will hold a hearing on April 14 on a bipartisan measure to bolster U.S. technology research and development efforts in a bid to address Chinese competition.
The bill, titled the Endless Frontier Act, was first proposed in 2020 calling for $110 billion over five years to advance U.S. technology efforts and cosponsored by Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer and Republican Senator Todd Young.
Senate Commerce committee chair Maria Cantwell said in a statement the hearing will address potential actions to strengthen the U.S. innovation ecosystem, including increasing National Science Foundation research funding; growing and diversifying the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) pipeline; improving technology transfer; and investing in regional innovation centers. ....
