Attorney General Merrick Garland faces his first test on federal executions as the Supreme Court considers reinstating a death sentence for the Boston Marathon bomber.
The court since October has been mulling a Trump-era federal appeal to rehear a
death penalty case against Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, who, along with his brother, killed three people and injured more than 200 others at the 2013 Boston Marathon. When then-Attorney General William Barr took the case to the high court, he vowed to do “whatever’s necessary” to see Tsarnaev executed. ....

Air Force B-2 Spirit bombers arrived at Portugal’s Lajes Field Tuesday, the service said this week, joining the B-1 Lancer bombers that are flying short-notice missions to project a strong front out of Europe.
An undisclosed number of B-2s from the 509th Bomb Wing at Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri, “add even more depth” to bomber task force flights run by U.S. Air Forces in Europe-Air Forces Africa, the organization’s commander, Gen. Jeff Harrigian, said in a release Wednesday. ....

Don't You Dare Call the B-1B Lancer a Nuclear Bomber

Don t You Dare Call the B-1B Lancer a Nuclear Bomber
In recent years, the Air Force has continued to upgrade and update the aging warbird – and the plan is for the B-1 fleet to remain in service well into the 2030s when the Northrop Grumman B-21 Raider enters service.
The United States Air Force has tested ways that the Cold War-era Boeing B-1B Lancer could be used to carry hypersonic weapons externally. External pylons were originally designed for use on the B-1s but were later scrapped to comply with the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START). Recently the Air Force has taken the opinion that the return to the use of external hardpoints would not violate the New START agreement. ....

On Friday, a U.S. Air Force B-1B Lancer swing-wing bomber from the 7th Bomb Wing, Dyess Air Force Base, Texas landed in Poland. This marked the first time a B-1B has ever landed in Poland, demonstrating U.S. commitment to allies and partners, and stability in the Baltic Region.
The flight included the first ever hot-pit refuel of a bomber aircraft in Europe. “Hot pitting,” or refueling the aircraft while the engines are on and the crew remains in the cockpit, drastically reduces refueling times so that bombers can more rapidly return to the skies. In addition to this historic first, the B-1 integrated with Swedish JAS-39 Gripen fighters, Polish F-16 Fighting Falcons and Danish F-16s. The B-1 also conducted aerial refueling with a KC-135 Stratotanker from the 100th Air Refueling Wing, Royal Air Force Mildenhall, United Kingdom. ....

Did the U.S. Military Lose the Stealth B-2 Bomber's Blueprints?

Did the U.S. Military Lose the Stealth B-2 Bomber s Blueprints?
It seems that some of the Air Force s B-2 Spirit stealth bomber parts may have gone missing.
It seems that some of the Air Force s B-2 Spirit stealth bomber parts may have gone missing. A notice on the U.S. federal contracting website reads as follows:
This engineering effort is to reverse engineer the core of the B‐2 Load Heat Exchangers, develop disassembly process to remove defective cores, develop a stacking, vacuum brazing and welding process to manufacture new heat exchanger cores and to develop a welding process to install the new cores on existing B‐2 Load Heat Exchangers. The requirement includes reverse engineering the re‐core process for the B‐2 Load Heat Exchangers. The B‐2 Load Heat Exchanger (NSN 1660‐01‐350‐8209FW) uses air and Ethylene Glycol Water (EGW) liquid to produce cold air for the cooling system.” ....
