Environment minister to challenge court ruling that she owes children a duty of care over climate change

Environment Minister Sussan Ley is appealing a Federal Court declaration that she has a duty of care to protect children from future personal injury caused by climate change.
Justice Mordecai Bromberg made official on Thursday his ruling that Ms Ley owed the duty to all Australian children when exercising her legislative decision-making powers, regarding the Vickery Coal Mine in northern NSW.
Eight children took action against Ms Ley last year, challenging an expansion to the Whitehaven Coal-owned project north of Gunnedah.

The project was approved previously by NSW s Independent Planning Commission and would result in 100 million additional tonnes of carbon emissions. ....

A group of teenagers secured a declaration that Federal Environment Minister Sussan Ley has a duty to take reasonable care to avoid causing harm to children from carbon emissions when considering an application for a coal mine expansion.

The Board of Australian Wool Innovation is pleased to announce the appointment of Jock Laurie, a champion of Australian agriculture, as its new Chairman.
The appointment, which is effective immediately, follows the decision of former Chairman Colette Garnsey to step down from the role to ensure a smooth transition and knowledge transfer ahead of the Annual General Meeting in November.
Ms Garnsey, who has served on the Board for 10 years, the last three years as Chairman, had previously announced her intention to retire at the AGM. She will remain on the Board as a director until the AGM to ensure an orderly handover to Jock Laurie. ....
