TIAA CEO Roger Ferguson, one of 5 Black Fortune 500 chiefs, has experienced onlyness many times.
Onlyness is the experience of being the the only Black person, woman, etc., in a room.
To deal with this, the CEO told Insider that he never let let other people s ignorance faze him. 
Roger Ferguson, the CEO of TIAA who oversees $1.1 trillion in assets, once visited a country club for dinner with other CEOs when he was mistaken for a waiter. He was the only Black guest in the room. ....

Black female execs on leading Goldman Sachs's $10 billion investment in Black women

The firm s CEO David Solomon has tasked Black female execs with leading the investment.
The investment came after a virtual town hall in the wake of George Floyd s death.
Days after the police-killing of George Floyd, Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon called a company-wide virtual town hall meeting. He invited three Black executives at the firm to share their perspectives on the Black American experience. 
Asahi Pompey, global head of corporate engagement and president of the Goldman Sachs Foundation, was one of those executives. During the town hall, she shared a public letter to her 11-year-old son where she expressed her worries for his life and offered guidance for navigating the world while Black. Other executives shared their reaction to Floyd s death, and how the national outcry over racial injustice was impacting them.  ....

3 Black queer journalists on breaking into the journalism industry

Many industries started to examine their racist pasts. Journalism in particular began to reckon with the lack of diversity in newsrooms, and the racist rhetoric it used in coverage of diverse communities.
These reckonings felt like an empty PR attempt, since the same behaviors are still present at many publications in 2021 
Despite these attempts, we re left with a lingering question of how can journalism actively change to be as diverse as the communities it reports on. One way is to hire diverse candidates with intersecting identities, such as Black queer journalists who navigate the industry with the added stress of implicit bias rooted in racism and queerphobia.   ....
