Despite more than a year of closures, many of the bars on Arenas Road are open again. These bars are more than just drinking places, one owner said.

Bartenders at Chill Bar are slinging drinks a vodka soda here, a couple “margarita martinis” there beneath two glittering, life-size mannequins suspended from the ceiling.
Outside, a group of women in all pink and matching cowboy hats arrive on the back of a bar bike. Up the street, a server at Hunters offers up a tray of neon Jello shots to customers sitting on the patio. Masks, occupancy limits and social distancing aside, it could be any pre-pandemic Friday night on Arenas Road, an entire block lined with gay bars and businesses in downtown Palm Springs.  ....

LOS ANGELES In the middle of the most prolific and successful run of his long career in the adult entertainment industry, Drew Sebastian recognized that he needed to make changes in his life. And when the pandemic hit last year, he had no choice.
“I was living in L.A. when COVID started happening. We were all kind of going into lockdown, and I just felt like going to Palm Springs. My friend had a house there and I had just had hernia surgery,” he says. “It was just easier to be in Palm Springs while I was recovering for six weeks. During that time, I was so bored. Obviously, no studios were filming at the time, and I was like, ‘What can I do to make money?’” ....
