Marine Corps Pilot Celebrates 100th Birthday Marine Corps Pilot Celebrates 100th Birthday This Saturday, Planes of Fame Air Museum (POF) will host the 100 th birthday party of former Marine Corps aviator and World War II combat veteran Major John Tashjian. The public is invited to join in the festivities! Museum doors open at 10:00am. The party will run from 10:30am until 12:30pm. At noon the museum’s Corsair will take to the sky for a twenty-minute aerial demonstration. The event will be more than just a birthday party, it will be a reunion between two old friends. John Tashjian was born on July 10, 1921, and grew up in Oakland, California. In 1942, with the country at war, he enlisted in the Marine Corps and became an aviator. In 1944, Tashijan was assigned to Marine Fighter Squadron Four Four One (VMF-441) and took part in Operation ....

The employees had traveled thousands of miles to serve the Army mission in every sector of range and base operations. Now, their tour was just beginning as his grew short. Bartel shared an overview of the Kwajalein mission an endeavor he and garrison contract partners had supported without fail for two years. Then, he gave them some advice about time management. “Get out there and do stuff,” Bartel said to the newcomers. “Most of your contracts are for one year. That’s 52 weekends. By the time you knock out illness, you’re at 48. Subtract the holidays, mandatory social events, calls home, bad weather and work, and you’re down to 25 weekends to do things you bragged you’d do when you moved to Kwajalein, whether that’s diving, fishing, snorkeling, golf or getting in shape.” ....
