PRESTONSBURG, Ky. (AP) A replica statue of Abraham Lincoln in Kentucky has been moved to a permanent home at a Civil War battlefield.
Floyd County Judge-Executive Robert Williams told WYMT-TV that the statue is now at the Middle Creek Battlefield in Prestonsburg. The site is where Union forces halted a Confederate advance into Kentucky in 1862.
The statue depicting the president seated is a replica of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. It was removed in 2019 from the law office of Eric C. Conn, who was sentenced to 12 years in prison for the largest Social Security fraud in history. Conn fled the country but was caught in Honduras and sentenced to an additional 15 years. ....

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell denounces efforts to abolish the filibuster, saying that he would use procedures to turn the Senate into a “100-car pileup, nothing moving.” The filibuster rule should be eliminated because of its current abuse and disgraceful past.Chip Somodevilla /Getty Images
“Words matter” is a cliché being tossed about these days. But, really, they do matter.
By now, the phrase “filibuster” has conjured up images of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell doubling down and demanding Democrats do not tamper with the rule. And McConnell, being McConnell, went a bit further, threatening a “scorched earth” policy if Democrats kill the filibuster. It seems no one has told McConnell that the GOP no longer has real power. ....

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) A road leading to Vanderbilt University Medical Center is now named for a Black pioneer in cardiac surgery, instead of bearing the Confederacy-tied moniker of Dixie Place.
Officials in Nashville commemorated the name change to Vivien Thomas Way during an event Monday.
In a news release, the hospital said the switch resulted from current second-year Vanderbilt University School of Medicine students brainstorming with college mentors last summer about creating change amid the civil unrest nationwide over the death of George Floyd.
Medical school professor Walter Clair, a mentor and the vice chair for diversity and inclusion in the school s Department of Medicine, suggested the name change. He noted to students that the last stoplight he had to drive through before parking in a garage at work was on Dixie Place. ....
