Monitor-Virginia: first battle of ironclad ships changed naval warfare

On March 9, 1862, Confederate Navy ship CSS Virginia and Union navy ship USS Monitor met in battle off the coast of Virginia.
Their clash was inconclusive, but the battle was the first time metal warships had squared off, and it changed naval warfare forever.
As dawn broke over Hampton Roads, Virginia, on March 9, 1862, the Confederate Navy ironclad CSS Virginia left the Gosport Naval Yard and sailed toward the grounded Union frigate USS Minnesota.
The day before, on its maiden voyage, the Virginia achieved a shocking victory against the Union Navy s North Atlantic Blockading Squadron, sinking two ships and causing three more to run aground. Virginia s crew now planned to finish off the three ships and break the Union blockade of Norfolk. ....

While Tata and Spicejet continue in the bidding process for Air India, the consortium of Air India employees that placed an expression of interest (EoI) has failed to qualify for the next round.
The government aims to complete the privatisation of the national carrier in the next fiscal.
The news of disqualification was given by Meenakshi Mallik, the airlineâs commercial director, to Air India employees.

The head of a federation representing the interests of Korean banks said lenders have grown fearful of unilateral punishment by financial regulators, which has apparently heightened uncertainties for top management. Korea Federation of Banks (KFB) Chairman Kim Gwang-soo said Tuesday that the punitive measures were aimed at chastising bank chiefs who fail to maintain control over their businesses, but the rationale used by regulators remains unclear. ....
