Global warming is the existential challenge of our time, threatening lives, livelihoods and the future of the planet. Wildfires, extreme storms and other impacts of global warming are already causing devastation around the world. Those impacts will only become more dramatic over time unless we move to cut greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions immediately and dramatically.
To prevent the worst impacts of global warming, the United States must achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) warns that world carbon emissions must reach net zero around 2050 to limit global warming to 1.5°C over preindustrial levels – the level beyond which catastrophic climate changes could occur.[i] ....

SaskPower bills to increase slightly as Carbon Tax jumps $10/tonne

Starting January 1
st, Saskatchewan residents can expect to see a small increase on their SaskPower bills due to an increase to the Federal Carbon Tax.
The Carbon Tax on SaskPower’s carbon emissions will be increasing from $30/tonne to $40/tonne.
SaskPower spokesperson Joel Cherry says the increase will be very minimal.
“Even though we’re not pursuing a rate increase for 2021, and we do have a 10 percent power rebate in place, that part of the bill will go up,” said Cherry. “For residential customers, it will depend on your usual usage, but on average a residential customer can expect to see a total increase of about 50 cents a month on their bill.” ....

Federal Carbon Tax increase set for new year


The amount charged per customer will vary depending on consumption.
The Federal Carbon Tax came into effect January 1, 2019 and began appearing on SaskPower bills April 1, 2019. The federal government scheduled continued annual increases until the carbon tax hits $170/tonne by 2030.  
Federal carbon tax on SaskPower greenhouse gas emissions will increase from $30 to $40/tonne in 2021

The Government of Saskatchewan and SaskPower’s challenge of the Federal Carbon Tax was heard by the Supreme Court of Canada in September, 2020. A timeline for a decision is unknown and SaskPower is required to collect the carbon tax during this time. ....
