Courts welcome much needed judicial appointments
The Family Court of Australia (FCoA) and the Federal Circuit Court of Australia (FCC) welcome the Government’s announcement today of the following judicial appointments;
Judge Paul Howard, elevated from the FCC to the FCoA, Brisbane.
Barrister Jonathon Davis QC, appointed to the FCC, Melbourne.
Barrister Jennifer Howe, appointed to the FCC, Melbourne.
Senior Registrar Colin Campbell, appointed to the FCC, Sydney.
All appointments commence on 6 April 2021.
Judge Howard has been a judge of the FCC in Brisbane since 2007, is highly experienced in family law and will now join the Family Court. Melbourne Barrister, Jonathon Davis QC has over 25 years’ experience as a superior court advocate in commercial law, employment/industrial law, migration and administrative law and he will be based in Melbourne sitting on general federal law matters. Former Southern University Band Director Sentenced To Prison
Nathan Haymer, former director of Southern University s marching band, has been sentenced to federal prison.
Haymer pleaded guilty to embezzlement charges last year and was sentenced this Tuesday to 13 months in a federal penitentiary, and he must must pay $78,690 back to the school in restitution.
Judge Brian Jackson, a Southern Law Center alum, told Haymer he took advantage of the university to enrich himself and exploited loopholes to make it happen. Haymer admitted to submitting at least 15 fraudulent invoices to Southern University for band expenses and just kept the money. He was also accused of taking personal payments for Southern performers. ....

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said taxpayers in his state are forking out over $850 million each year to pay for various costs associated with the housing and care of immigrants who enter Texas illegally.
Paxtons office had re-released the figures, which was first presented to a federal court in January, in an attempt to highlight the gravity of the burgeoning crisis at the U.S. southern border. The significant surge of illegal border crossings in recent weeks, particularly by unaccompanied minors, has overwhelmed border patrol facilities and resources. Although the Biden administration is sending most single adults and some families back, unaccompanied minors are being accepted into the country. ....
