“It’s deja vu all over again,” is one of Yogi Berra’s most memorable “Yogi-isms” and could be used to describe the latest union contract agreement by the city of Jamestown.
On Monday during the regular voting session meeting, the Jamestown City Council approved a three year agreement 2018, 2019 and 2020 with the Jamestown Professional Firefighters Association Local 137. The reasons the contract agreement seems like deja vu the feeling that one has lived through the present situation before is because just last month the city reached a similar deal with the Kendall Club Police Benevolent Association. ....

The city of Jamestown won’t be paying as much for losing the police arbitration case as once projected.
On Monday during the Jamestown City Council work session meeting, Ryan Thompson, city comptroller, told the council that because the previous administration, lead by former mayor Sam Teresi, had booked accrued liability to cover retropay increases through 2019 to police union employees, the city won’t be paying an estimated $1.1 million. He said because of the accrued liability, the 2% pay increase to the police employees for 2016-17 will impact the city only $220,000 for both 2020 and 2021, for a total of $440,000. ....

Like Many Families, City's Bank Account Just Got Lighter | News, Sports, Jobs

Dec 23, 2020
Like many area residents’ bank accounts around Christmas, Jamestown’s savings account isn’t nearly as big as it was when the month started.
City residents aren’t getting any shiny new toys from city government this year for Christmas they’re just paying some really big bills.
The state Court of Appeals’ decision last week not to hear the city’s appeal of a 2018 arbitration panel’s ruling to award Kendall Club Police Benevolent union members a 2% pay increase for 2016 and 2017 means the city will be writing its police officers a $1.1 million check to meet the arbitrator’s ruling. Couple that decision with the City Council’s decision to use about $400,000 of the surplus to balance the 2021 city budget, and all of a sudden the $3.9 million fund balance the city started the year with has been cut nearly in half in the span of about three weeks. ....
