The funds are coming out of the $2 billion the agency received from the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2021.
Individuals and households can get reimbursement for COVID-19-related funeral expenses incurred between Jan. 20 and Dec. 31, 2020.
FEMA has set up restrictions on who can apply:
Applications must be U.S. citizens, non-citizen nationals or qualified aliens who paid for funeral expenses after Jan. 20, 2020.
The funeral expenses must be for an individual whose death in the U.S., its territories or the District of Columbia, may have been caused by or was likely the result of COVID-19. ....

Jeers comment

Editor: I’m writing to commend your recent “jeers” comment about our legislators’ non-accountable expense plan. I really wish someone would do an investigation into this. I am a tax accountant and the IRS code states that the reimbursement for a non-accountable plan must be reported as income on their tax return — I wonder if this is being done for those representatives that have $1.4 million in expenses, using taxpayer’s money? And if not, why are they above the law?
I’m thinking of all the places that money would be better spent: our education system, grants for small businesses, healthcare for those that work and don’t have it or can’t afford their employer’s plan, improving our infrastructure, building up recreational places and programs to attract people outdoors, funding for organizations like the YMCA and other community centers to aid in affordable daycare for working parent. I’m sure there are many more. ....

Wolf-killing bills draw expert opposition

ROB CHANEY
A hearing on two controversial wolf-killing bills pitted those who believe state wildlife managers aren’t listening to hunters against those who believe legislators aren’t listening to science.
“The people felt they have not had a voice with the (state Fish and Wildlife) commission,” Sen. Bob Brown, R-Thompson Falls, told the House Fish and Wildlife Committee on Tuesday as he closed debate on SB 267 and SB 314. “That is the attitude, the feeling, the people I represent have. That’s why this legislation comes forward.”
Brown’s bills would allow reimbursement of expenses “related to the hunting or trapping of wolves” and give the Fish and Wildlife Commission authority to reduce Montana’s wolf population by allowing unlimited kills by licensed hunters, baiting and use of night-vision or spotlighting equipment to hunt wolves at night. ....

House Bill Would Pay for EMS Treatment in Place

PRESS RELEASE
Rep. Cindy Axne (D-IA), Rep. John Larson (D-CT) and Rep. Bruce Westerman (R-AR) have announced they are introducing bipartisan legislation to provide fair reimbursements for firefighters, emergency medical services (EMS), and other medical first responders.
Currently, Medicare reimbursements are not provided to firefighters and medical first responders for supplies and services they provide if they treat someone on location, known as treatment in place. Reimbursements for these services are approved only when a patient is transferred to a hospital.
The Treatment in Place Act directs the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to reimburse ambulance providers for care delivered to beneficiaries when the patient is treated in place, providing vital funding to ground ambulance organizations. This will also eliminate the need to bring nonemergency patients into hospitals during COVID-19 for care, reducing COVID-19 exposure and demand on emer ....
