PORTLAND – Richard Alan Jacobs, 67, passed away peacefully at home with his family on May 8, 2021.
He was born in Portland on June 29, 1953 to William E. Jacobs and Irene (Ratliff) Souza. A near lifelong resident of Bancroft Street, he attended local schools and was particularly close to his maternal grandparents, Clarence and Ida Ratliff, whom he lived with growing up. Upon leaving school Rick went to work, ultimately settling at Data General in Westbrook where he remained until the plant’s closure. He then went to work for himself providing handyman, snow plowing, and lawn care services to customers throughout Portland.

Little City Books, an independent bookstore in Hoboken owned by Donna Garban and Kate Jacobs, raised more than $8100 for The Hoboken Shelter by raffling three signed copies of Barack Obama’s memoir,
A Promised Land.
The publisher, Crown Publishing Group an imprint of Penguin Random House, granted Little City Books a single copy of the signed deluxe edition of the memoir.
Rather than sell it for the listed price of $350, the co-owners decided to hold a raffle to raise money for The Hoboken Shelter, which provides assistance to the local homeless population.
