Rep. Ken Buck says he won't challenge Bennet for Colorado US Senate seat in 2022


U.S. Rep. Ken Buck, the chairman of the Colorado Republican Party, said Thursday night he won t run for Colorado s U.S. Senate seat next year, leaving Democratic U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet without even a rumored Republican challenger in his bid for a third term.
Buck, who announced in December that he isn t seeking a second term running the state GOP, said on Twitter that he is humbled by the support he s received for a potential Senate bid but intends to continue representing the 4th Congressional District, which covers Greeley, Castle Rock and the Eastern Plains.
I am humbled by the interest and support I have received to pursue a potential Senate bid, however I will not be running for U.S. Senate in Colorado, Buck tweeted. ....

John Hickenlooper spent $41 million to defeat Republican U.S. Sen. Cory Gardner, emerging as the top spender in the nationally important race, new campaign finance records show.
Gardner spent about $27.6 million through Nov. 23 in his losing bid for a second term, according to the reports filed Thursday. 
The candidates’ combined fundraising more than doubled the previous record in a U.S. Senate race in Colorado, which was set in 2014. In fact, the spending even far exceeded the $36 million that super PACs and other committees reported in campaign expenditures this year. 
All told, the Democratic candidate and allied political committees spent $56.7 million to win the U.S. Senate race in Colorado $8.6 million more than Republican Gardner and aligned GOP spenders, a Colorado Sun analysis shows. ....
