Lady Lions keep flawless district, home records intact with 1-0 win over Mineral Wells

The Brownwood Lady Lions remained undefeated in District 4-4A soccer action – and perfect at Gordon Wood Stadium – with a 1-0 triumph over the Mineral Wells Lady Rams Friday night.
Despite owning the momentum throughout much of the contest, the Lady Lions (8-2, 2-0) were unable to light up the scoreboard until 15:06 remained in the contest when Molly Oliver scored the game’s only goal off an assist from Tessa Goodwin, who recently joined the team following the conclusion of basketball season.
“When Tessa came out she told me she was a defensive player, but yesterday at practice I put on her offense just to see what she could do and what she was capable of because I’d never seen her play soccer,” said Lady Lions head coach Alexis Mosqueda. “In practice I saw that she can get these cross balls up in the air, which is exactly what we’ve been lacking this season, and she did that as soon as I put her in. She got the ball right where it needed to be, right at Molly’s feet, and Molly was able to knock it in.”

Guidelines, criteria for potential tax abatements approved by commissioners

Brown County Commissioners approved the adoption of guidelines and criteria for the purpose of potential future tax abatements during Monday’s meeting at the Brown County Courthouse.
All four commissioners – Precinct 1’s Gary Worley, Precinct 2’s Joel Kelton, Precinct 3’s Wayne Shaw and Precinct 4’s Larry Traweek – voted in favor, while County Judge Paul Lilly stated his opposition.
Worley stated, “Establishing guidelines and criteria does not mean we will automatically grant a tax abatement to Radiant Solar or anyone else. What it does mean is that 3M, Kohler, Superior Essex or any other industry in the county that wishes to expand and would like to have a tax abatement, the criteria is already set. It’s not just for one industry, it’s for every industry that might come in. The second thing is just because we set these guidelines and criteria doesn’t mean that anyone that fills out an application is automatically going to get it. In these guidelines and criteria, there is always a clause that says we can approve or deny anything that is set before us.”

Texas Lutheran spoils Bachtel's debut at HPU, 39-38

The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets never trailed until 1:47 remained in the spring football season opener, where a late touchdown and two-point conversion by the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs spoiled head coach Jason Bachtel’s debut at his alma mater.
Texas Lutheran, an 8-2 squad a year ago, escaped with a 39-38 victory over the Yellow Jackets at Gordon Wood Stadium, snapping a three-game win streak for Howard Payne. The Yellow Jackets were coming off a 5-5 campaign, their best record since 2006.
Trailing 38-31 with less than two minutes left, TLU quarterback Seth Cosme scored on a 1-yard run to bring the Bulldogs within a point. Texas Lutheran then opted for the two-point conversion, also converted by Cosme on a sprint to the pylon.
