On Nov. 13, Republican Mariannette Miller-Meeks was seated in the U.S. Capitol s Visitor Center Congressional Auditorium listening to a panel on hiring staff, a duty that the new representative of Iowa s 2nd District will need to become familiar with as retiring Rep. Dave Loebsack prepares to leave office.
In a CSPAN video of the presentation, Miller-Meeks in a cerulean blazer is in the center of the audience leaned forward, writing in the margin of a handout.
I took copious notes and then we got all kinds of information, all kinds of books. While Joe Biden led in both the electoral college and the popular vote, President Donald Trump has sought to throw out legally cast ballots in multiple states. His effort has been rejected by the Supreme Court and, with Monday s electoral college vote, Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell congratulated President-elect Biden on his victory. But after waiting weeks to acknowledge the certified results of 50 states, McConnell and his effort to end his party s attempts to cast doubt on the election didn t work.
This week, 23 of the 45 incoming Republican representatives called on leaders in the U.S. House of Representatives to launch an investigation into the 2020 presidential election. Led by Reps.-elect Kat Cammack of Florida s 3rd District and Michelle Fishbach of Minnesota s 7th District, the Republicans of the 117th Congress freshman class called on the House to investigate irregularities. ....
