Review: Forever - Fresh Fire | Cross Rhythms

This is a pleasantly unusual EP from a South Jersey-based rock band. The female vocals (by Tiandra Jones) are light and self-assured, but by contrast underpinned by a progressive rock sound - driven largely by the insistent bass playing of Ahmad Sanon and Alan Wilkins, especially on the opening track I Am Free , a declaration of confident faith. This is followed by a short instrumental, progressive rock style, but no self-respecting prog rock band would stand over a track one minute 17seconds long - even the solos would last longer! (Admittedly they make up for this somewhat as they play out the final track.) It Will Be Alright is a lighter piece with an emphasis on joy and a welcome reassurance about a brighter day , and there s no doubt about the source of the optimism - after redemption there s forgiveness. In case listeners were concerned it would get too happy-clappy the next song, Stand , tells the story of someone with their back agai ....

Review: Phoenix - Nathan Jess | Cross Rhythms

Northern Ireland-based songwriter and worship leader Nathan s third album demonstrates his heart for genuine worship. Awake My Soul with its rhythmic percussion and rock guitars is powerful stuff while Nashville s Chris McClarney accompanies Nathan on Tear The Veil which is beautifully sung and references the Lord s Prayer. Hearts Of The Fathers , co-written with Matt Redman for single release, is a prayer with a Celtic feel with the strings of Everett and Caroline Hardin enhancing the tone as Nathan sings, You came to restore/You came to renew us. An adaptation of Amazing Grace (I Will Trust) to the tune of Danny Boy works well, with the additional lyrics sandwiched between familiar verses. Nathan reflects on the implications of Christ s sacrifice for us on the final track, Sweet Communion summing up his own deep relationship with his Saviour. ....
