During the pandemic, chef Edward Lee helped feed people in nearly 20 cities, including Atlanta, Seattle, Nashville, Houston, New Orleans, Brooklyn, Raleigh, Los Angeles, and his hometown Louisville, Kentucky where he runs the restaurants 610 Magnolia and Whiskey Dry. His LEE Initiative has used money from donors like Audi and Maker s Mark and support from chefs across the country to turn idle restaurants into relief kitchens. The restaurant s staff got paid, and hungry people ate.

A line of cars funneled into the Charlotte Motor Speedway parking lot Thursday night. People with flashlights directed drivers down six lanes with tents at the end. One by one, drivers pulled up to the tents where groups of volunteers handed them food, cookies and bottles of water.
Latino music played on large speakers keeping spirits warm on an otherwise cold night. The cars never stopped for long. For two hours, a seemingly never-ending line of cars rolled up to the tents to pick up some of the 6,000 meals handed out, in total. ....

Blue Cross NC, Charlotte Motor Speedway And Latin American Chamber Of Commerce Of Charlotte To Provide 6,000 Meals At Food Distribution Event Today

These organizations will be hosting a meal distribution event, as part of LACCC’s Community Kitchen Program, at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Thursday, January 28, from 4:30 to 8:30 P.M. to distribute 6,000 hot meals from 25 local Latin restaurants to those in need. This drive-thru event is free and open to the public. Event attendees must enter through the entrance at 5555 Concord Pkwy S Concord, NC 28027.
LACCC’s Community Kitchen Program provides additional food security for families of essential workers impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic while also offering financial support for local, Latino-owned small businesses in the Charlotte metropolitan area. The program has already fed 8,000 families and supported 41 small businesses, and through Blue Cross NC’s $ ....
