Twenty-eight persons have been reportedly killed in attacks on several communities in Benue and Nasarawa states by suspected herdsmen.
A former Speaker of the Benue State Assembly, Dave Iorhemba, on Saturday said 17 people were killed in separate attacks on communities in the Guma Local Government Area of the state.

'Use GBU, inter colleges as isolation centres' | Noida News

Noida: With some of the societies coming up with temporary solutions like facilities with oxygen and other similar help and some setting up their own isolation centres, resident groups of Gautam Budh Nagar have demanded that they be allowed to run these centres with permission and support from the administration.
TOI had earlier reported how the Gaur Saundaryam society in Greater Noida (west) had formed a temporary isolation centre in their premises where they have kept oxygen cylinders, oximeters and they are extending help to the Covid patients with immediate medical advice from doctors available in the society.
The Homes 121 society in Sector 121 is the latest to come up with such an arrangement or an “emergency Covid-19 response centre” where a group of residents have gathered and are helping out patients in their society with the assistance in getting a hospital bed or oxygen cylinders. ....

DMC's Banfield featured in Washington Post piece | News, Sports, Jobs

Banfield
ELKINS A new study shows that nearly half of women with urinary tract infections are prescribed the wrong antibiotics. Dr. Anne Banfield, FACOG, was interviewed by the Lily (a publication of the Washington Post) about the study which was published in the Infection Control & Hospital Epidemiology journal.
According to the study, women in rural areas were particularly impacted.
“The proper use of antibiotics has become a much more relevant topic in the last decade,” said Banfield, who is the Director of Women’s Health Services for Davis Medical Center. “Antibiotics have been a sort of panacea for all things. They are effective in treating simple but potentially deadly infections and have been prescribed for a variety of conditions. We wouldn’t consider antibiotics for some of these conditions now.” ....

Civilized societies

Civilized societies
April 21, 2021
What makes a society civilized? In a word: limits. Civilized societies – to protect and enhance the greater good – set limits on how people behave.
We limit, for instance, how fast motorists can drive. We limit how many ducks hunters can shoot. We limit how much noise our neighbors can make late at night.
But we have one aspect of contemporary life where no limits ever seem to apply: We let our wealthiest keep getting ever wealthier. And the pace of that enriching is ever quickening.
Back in 1982, the year Forbes started listing America’s 400 richest on an annual basis, the nation sported a mere 13 billionaires, and the richest on that list had just $2 billion. The combined wealth of all 400 on that initial Forbes list totaled $91.8 billion, about $252 billion in today’s dollars. By 1990, our billionaire population had jumped to 66, and the combined wealth of those billionaires alone had hit $240 billion, nearly the ....
