Devon s public sector pension fund bosses have pledged to go green

The Devon Pension Fund has pledged that its portfolio of investments will be net-zero by 2050 at the latest.
The Devon Pension Fund administers the pension scheme for the majority of Devon’s public sector, including emergency services and Local Government.
A recent report by campaign groups Platform and Friend of the Earth had found that Devon County Council is among the UK’s top local authority fossil fuel investors, with investments of £157m from its £4billion fund in fossil fuel companies such as Royal Dutch Shell, BP, BHP, Anglo American and ExxonMobil. ....

iShares ESG Advanced Total USD Bond Market ETF (EUSB), which debuted in June, is part of that group. It’s clear that EUSB, which tracks the Bloomberg Barclays MSCI US Universal Choice ESG Screened Index, has already gained quite the following, as highlighted its $141.44 million in assets under management in just six months on the market.
EUSB “seeks to track the investment results of an index composed of U.S. dollar-denominated bonds that are rated either investment-grade or high-yield from issuers with a favorable environmental, social and governance rating as identified by the index provider, while applying extensive screens for involvement in controversial activities,” according to iShares. ....

As of Dec. 17, there were a record 276 new exchange-traded funds launched in 2020. This marks the fastest pace of new launch activity since the prior record was set in 2015. There are now 2,288 ETFs available to investors. Since SPDR S&P 500 ETF (SPY) was launched in 1993, 3,291 ETFs have been brought to market. This means that about 30% of them have since been closed. In 2020, a record 179 ETFs shut down.
Though there are plenty of choices on the ever-expanding menu, investors tastes are basic. Of the 2,288 ETFs currently on offer, the top 100 as measured by assets under management accounted for 70% of the $5.5 trillion invested in ETFs at the middle of December. The top 100 are the Swiss Army knives of the ETF world. They are efficient multipurpose tools that do a lot of different jobs for a lot of different types of investors. ....
