Elevate Vaccination Priority For Māori And Pacific Island Aged Care Workers

Aged care facility workers
are on the frontline of the battle to keep those in their
care safe from infection, says Smith.
Smith is calling
for greater protection for the large numbers of Māori and
Pacific Island women who provide essential services to the
elderly, with increased concern because of the latest report
from Epidemiologist Dr Rawiri Taonui.
“Dr Taonui
informs us that there is a 85.7% chance of further community
outbreaks and we must continue to be vigilant and ensure
that vaccination protection is urgently provided to our most
vulnerable communities, including the essential workers

State health officials reported 3,312 new COVID-19 cases, Monday, for a total 1,948,307 infections. The Florida Department of Health also reported 81 coronavirus-related deaths March 8, increasing the statewide death toll to 32,349 fatalities since the beginning of the pandemic.
The latest single-day positivity rate reported by the Florida Division of Emergency Management increased to 8.66% on Sunday. Over the past two weeks the single-day positivity rate has ranged between 6.64% and 9.84%.
The Agency for Health Care Administration reports that as of Tuesday morning the number of patients admitted to hospitals throughout the state with a primary diagnosis of COVID-19 has dropped to 3,321. ....

The state Department of Public Health reports that 49-thousand people were vaccinated on Saturday.
Another 40- thousand received shots yesterday.
One-point-four-million vaccination shots have been administered in the state, with nearly 400-thousand of those people receiving both shots.
Meantime, the Pandemic Response Committee of the State Legislature will hold an oversight hearing this week.
It is Chaired by State Senator Jo Commerford who has invited the Governor to testify.
But it is unclear whether he will accept the invitation.

Covid Scotland: NHS Western Isles owes 'huge debt' to coastguard for assistance airlifting patients

The coastguard’s search and rescue helicopter team in Stornoway has been providing invaluable support to the NHS by transporting Covid patients from Barra.
The helicopter has been sent to move people most at risk of serious illness after testing positive for the virus to Western Isles Hospital in Stornoway, in a bid to ensure they receive the urgent care they need as quickly as possible.
NHS Western Isles boss Gordon Jamieson now says the health service owes the coastguard a huge debt .
Their support is in addition to the coastguard aircraft’s search and rescue response duties – with January 2021 proving to be the busiest month on record for the Stornoway base since it opened in 2013. ....
