Therefore, the denial of religious freedom for Sri Lanka’s Muslims to bury their dead in accordance with their religious beliefs, as enshrined in international law, is a direct contravention of the ICCPR to which Sri Lanka is a party.’
Ms Ramberg added:
‘Further, the WHO guidance states,
“the dignity of the dead, their cultural and religious traditions, and their families should be respected and protected throughout. ”
So, coupled with
no scientific basis to deny individuals’ autonomy on how to manage the death of a family member, we call on Sri Lanka to reverse the enforced cremation policy and ensure the individual’s right to freedom of religion is upheld.’ ....

Deputy President William Ruto played host to his Nigerian in-laws as he embarked on giving his daughter June Ruto away for marriage.
The glamourous engagement part saw the merging of two cultures, the Kalenjin community and their counterparts from Nigeria - the Igbos. The couple of the day was June and her fiancé Dr Alexander Ezenagu, following successful negotiation of the bride price.

On Wednesday 28 April, the House of Lords will debate the reduction in UK development aid and its impact on achieving the objectives outlined in the Integrated Review of security, defence, development and foreign policy.
Speakers include the founder of the Relief and Development Institute and a former board member of Oxfam.
The debate will take place in Grand Committee, away from the main chamber.
