The poor condition of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway is discouraging local and international tourists from visiting Badagry thereby killing the toursim potential of the ancient town, Afeez Hanafi reports
For months, I longed to visit historical sites in Badagry, Nigeria’s foremost tourism destination far-flung Lagos. I always looked forward to seeing monuments and relics of the transatlantic slave trade spanning 16th to 19th centuries. Those are signs of Nigeria’s history millions of people within and outside the country are curious to see.
Sometime in February, I went online to read up on tourist attractions in the ancient town. I stumbled on the line of a tour guide, Anago Osho, and quickly phoned him for enquiries. We agreed on N8,000 entry fees even though he made me realise he charges as much as N15,000 including boat fares ....

WTO: Okonjo-Iweala Appoints Four Deputy DGs

The Director General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, yesterday announced the appointment of Angela Ellard of the United States, Anabel González of Costa Rica, Ambassador Jean-Marie Paugam of France and Ambassador Xiangchen Zhang of China as her four Deputy Directors-General.
In a statement posted on the WTO’s website, the former Nigeria finance minister reiterated her commitment to strengthening the global trade body.
“I am very pleased to announce the appointment of four new Deputy Directors-General at the WTO. It is the first time in the history of our Organization that half of the DDGs are women. ....

Airtel Nigeria announces appointment of Surendran as new Chief Executive Officer

Airtel in its statement said, “
Surendran has been with Bharti Airtel since 2003 and has contributed immensely in various roles across customer experience, sales and business operations.
He was the Chief Executive Officer of Karnataka, which is the largest circle in Airtel India, with over one billion dollars in revenue.
Surendran delivered an exceptional performance with significant movement in Revenue Market Share (RMS) over the last few years, currently at 54 percent. He has over 30 years of business experience, including 15 years at Xerox.’’
Airtel said that Surendran would transition into his new role from June 1, 2021, and spend the time onboarding into the business until July 31, 2021. ....

(Business in Cameroon) - On March 1, 2021, the Pierre Castel endowment fund, “Agir avec l Afrique” (Act with Africa) opened registrations for the fourth edition of the Pierre Castel Prize, which rewards agricultural or agri-food projects carried out by young Africans (18-45 years). Young Cameroonian entrepreneurs have until March 31, 2021, to succeed Delors Leuwing Ngounouo who won the third national edition in 2020 thanks to his company Mboa Snackery Sarl which produces and sells plantain chips.
The candidate ranked first will win a €15,000 (XAF10 million) prize, sponsorship, and coaching for the selected project as well as a 1-year training. The second prize will include €5,000 (over XAF3 million), coaching, and a 1-year training. ....
