LBI REGION, NJ - Christmas Eve brings loads of excitement for all ages, with Santa s arrival being the highlight for most. The North American Areospace Defense Command (NORAD) is a bi national cooperation partnered with the United States and Canada. Headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colorado; NORAD s mission continues to evolve to meet the changing threats and technology. While the men and women at NORAD always have their eyes on the skies to keep both countries safe, it also gives them the perfect opportunity to track Santa.
On December 24, NORAD takes on a very special mission of also tracking Santa Claus using the same satellite systems, high-powered radar and jet fighters. For 65 years NORAD and its predecessor the Continental Defense Command have tracked Santa s global flight. Keeping up with a tradition, volunteers, government and corporate partners report Santa s location ....

NORAD is tracking Santa tonight

Peterson Air Force Base, CO – NORAD is tracking Santa’s flight across the world just like it’s predecessor did, the Continental Air Defense Command (CONAD), for more than 50 years.
Back in 1955 after a Colorado Springs-based Sears Roebuck & Co. advertisement misprinted the telephone number for children to call Santa. Instead of reaching Santa, the phone number put kids through to the CONAD Commander-in-Chief’s operations “hotline.” This began the tradition.
The Director of Operations at the time, Colonel Harry Shoup, had his staff check the radar for indications of Santa making his way south from the North Pole. Children who called were given updates on his location, and a tradition was born. ....
