Opposition to Airport Expansion Grows

LIVERMORE â Objections to a possible expansion of the Livermore Municipal Airport (LVK) have surfaced, with rumblings of discontent present at city council meetings throughout the Tri-Valley. A new group has formed to oppose it.
Since the Livermore Airport Commission approved KaiserAirâs development plans on Feb. 8, Pleasanton resident Kamal Aggarwal teamed up with an advocacy group of Tri-Valley residents calling itself Say No to Livermore Airport Expansion. KaiserAir would add Boeing 737s to the LVK runway.
While David Decoteau, the former airport manager, stated that KaiserAir estimates two aircraft would conduct two landings and two takeoffs per week, Aggarwal s group cites concerns that once the expansion is built, it will not be legally possible to place a cap on the number of flights. Several public speakers have dialed into public meetings at city councils around the Tri-Valley to voice dismay over the noise impact. ....

Despite health officials advising people to avoid non-essential activities due to the recent surge in COVID-19 cases, crowds continue to take shape in parts of the Bay Area.
Prior to the pandemic, crowds at the San Francisco Premium Outlets in Livermore just days before Christmas would be considered normal, but as the region tries to slow down the surge, they re far from ideal.
The problem is when people are too close together, that is an opportunity to spread, UCSF Dr. Monica Ghandi said.
Ghandi said this isn t the time to let up. While being outside is a much better option than inside, it doesn t completely rule out the chance of transmitting the virus, especially during a surge. ....

A global pandemic isn t stopping Bay Area residents from hunting down bargains on Prada bags and Nike trainers at the San Francisco Premium Outlets in Livermore.
On Monday, the mega-outlet center 40 miles from downtown San Francisco was brimming with crowds.
Photos from Dec. 21 show the outlet s massive parking lot full and its outdoor corridors packed, and if people weren t wearing masks and lining up to get in stores you never would have known there was a pandemic.
People on social media have been commenting on the mob scene at the outdoor outlet mall that s touted as Northern California s largest luxury outlet with more than 180 stores. ....
