EDMONTON Officials with an Edmonton hospital say they’re investigating what happened when a woman who would later die sought help at the emergency department after receiving a COVID-19 vaccine.
A family friend of Lisa Stonehouse, Wilf Lowenberg, says she was taken off life support on Monday, 12 days after she got an Oxford-AstraZeneca shot.
Alberta chief medical officer of health, Dr. Deena Hinshaw, announced Tuesday that the death of the 52-year-old woman was due to a rare blood clot disorder one of three such fatalities in Canada. ....

Hospitalizations continue to increase as Alberta reports another 1,592 new cases of COVID-19


EDMONTON
Alberta has another 1,592 newly reported COVID-19 cases Saturday.
The province completed approximately 17,700 tests, leading to a positivity rate of nine per cent, the province’s top doctor said in a limited COVID-19 update on Twitter.
Alberta now has 19,446 active cases.
Variant cases now make up 60.9 per cent of active cases in Alberta, with 1,132 new variant of concern cases identified.
There are now 584 people in hospital, including 129 in ICU.
Hospitalizations started to steadily increase Friday. There were 518 on Thursday. Friday saw them increase by 31 to 549.
Five more Albertans have died from COVID-19, including three people in their 50s and 60s in the Calgary zone. ....

Bohdan Medwidsky, founder of the Kule Folklore Centre at the University of Alberta, died of COVID-19 on March 28, 2021. In 2008, Ukrainian president Viktor Yushchenko awarded Medwidsky Medal of Service, Third Degree.
Bohdan Medwidsky, a professor who pioneered the study of Ukrainian culture at the University of Alberta, died on March 28 in the COVID-19 ward at the Grey Nuns Community Hospital. He was 84.
Medwidsky is best known for founding the Peter and Doris Kule Centre for Ukrainian and Canadian Folklore at the U of A. ....

No new restrictions as Kenney pleads with Albertans to follow public health orders

The province won’t introduce new restrictions to curb the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic that has now arrived in Alberta, Premier Jason Kenney said Thursday.
Instead, the premier called on Albertans to follow existing public health restrictions, including a ban on indoor social gatherings, ahead of another holiday weekend.
