CHAMPLIN, Minn. (FOX 9) - Two high school seniors from Champlin Park High School won the 2021 Minnesota High School Music Listening Contest, a competition requiring students to recognize music spanning hundreds of years and genres.
The Minnesota High School Listening Competition was established in 1988 and the competition itself often includes teams from other states like Utah and Iowa. It’s a unique competition where teams of three, or in 2021, teams of three or fewer, are asked to identify excerpts of music from a study guide of nearly fifty pieces of music spanning hundreds of years. Participants are also quizzed on information surrounding that piece, like what year the composer was born and other random facts. ....

Students streamed out of schools across Minnesota on Monday afternoon to protest racial injustice, in a coordinated action that coincided with closing arguments in the murder trial of Derek Chauvin, the former police officer charged with killing George Floyd.
At 1:47 p.m., students held a moment of silence for Daunte Wright, a 20-year old Black man who was fatally shot last week by a police officer in Brooklyn Center, Minn., about 10 miles from the courthouse where Mr. Chauvin is on trial. ....
