Prison Officer Fired for Allegedly Bringing Meth-Laced Lollipops to Inmate On 5/19/21 at 11:44 AM EDT A prison officer has been fired after allegedly sneaking in lollipops that had been laced with methamphetamine for an inmate. Dana Fisher, 39, a sergeant at Ridgeland Correctional Institution, has been charged with distribution of methamphetamines, providing contraband to an inmate and misconduct in office, the South Carolina Department of Correction said in a statement. Fisher was arrested after allegedly bringing in a bag of Blow Pops, which included suckers that tested positive for meth, on May 7, officials said. A contraband officer at the institution noticed the lollipops and became suspicious as the wrappers looked as if they had been altered with glue. ....

Leary was named acting U.S. Attorney following the resignation of Charlie Peeler, the U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Georgia. Leary previously served as the First Assistant U.S. Attorney since 2018. Leary has served the citizens of the Middle District of Georgia as a prosecutor since 2012. Since joining the United States Attorneyâs Office (USAO), he has worked as the officeâs AntiTerrorism Advisory Council (ATAC) coordinator, its Computer Hacking and Intellectual Property (CHIP) prosecutor and as the First Assistant U.S. Attorney. ....
A former University of Georgia political science professor pleaded guilty Tuesday to possession of child pornography. During a hearing in federal court in Athens, James Edward Monogan III, 39, of Athens admitted he possessed hundreds of images of child porn, according to acting U.S. Attorney Peter Leary of the Middle District. Monogan has not been sentenced, but faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Monogan, who worked in UGA s School of Public and International Affairs, resigned earlier this year. UGA officials subsequently banned Monogan from campus. The investigation was initiated by U.S. Homeland Security agents in the Atlanta office after agents received information in 2019 that a person using the app KIK had provided child porn to another user on KIK, according to federal authorities. ....
