Over £5,800 raised for mental health charity after Burnham-On-Sea teenager's death


Friends and family of a Burnham-On-Sea teenager who took his own life two years ago have fundraised more than £5,800 for a local charity which supports young people who are struggling with mental health problems.
Ross Burland was only 19 years old when he died, as reported here. His family said nobody had any idea how much he was struggling mentally.
Now, they are hoping to prevent other families from experiencing the same thing and have  launched a fundraising campaign to raise awareness of the issue and also raise money for In Charley’s Memory, which was set up in memory of Burnham teenager Charley Marks, who also took his own life. ....

For two decades, the number of Americans who die each year from drug overdoses has steadily risen, from less than 20,000 in 1999 to more than 80,000 in 2020. By studying patterns of these drug-related fatalities, researchers at University of California San Diego School of Medicine, San Diego State University (SDSU), and international collaborators have designed and validated a prediction model to signal counties at risk of future overdose death outbreaks. The goal of the open-source tool is to predict and prevent deaths through early deployment of public health resources. ....
