Charlotte, North Carolina - A North Carolina man was sentenced Thursday to 78 months in prison for conspiring to commit money laundering and filing a false tax return.
According to court documents and other information presented in court, Phil Howard, 55, arranged on at least 221 different occasions for cut-rag tobacco to be transported by trucks from Wilson, North Carolina, to an area on or near the Akwesasne Mohawk Nation Reservation (Akwesasne Reservation) as part of a conspiracy to smuggle the tobacco into Canada without paying Canadian federal excise duties and provincial taxes. The Akwesasne Reservation straddles the U.S.-Canadian border on both banks of the St. Lawrence River. Co-conspirators then smuggled the cut-rag tobacco over the St. Lawrence River and transported it to the Kahnawake Mohawk Nation Reservation in Quebec. Ultimately, the cut-rag ....

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A 12-year-old boy from Virginia was killed by a grenade he had purchased at an antique store, according to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in a news release.
The boy died on Dec. 23 after the grenade exploded. He had purchased the grenade on June 13 at an antique mall near Charlotte, North Carolina. ....

A child from Virginia is dead after a World War II-era hand grenade believed to be inactive exploded, according to authorities.
The 12-year-old boy was killed on Dec. 23 by a MK2 grenade that was likely purchased at the Fancy Flea Antique Mall in Shallotte, North Carolina, a spokesperson for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) confirms to PEOPLE.

U.S.A. -(AmmoLand.com) – The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives seeks the public’s help in recovering potential live hand grenades purchased in June 2020 at the Fancy Flea Antique Mall on Ocean Highway West in Shallotte.
On Dec. 23, 2020, a Virginia teenager was killed by an exploding grenade that investigators believe may have been purchased from the antique mall in June.
Subsequent information provided to ATF indicates additional grenades were possibly sold from the same vendor in June 2020. Law enforcement is concerned the grenades purchased from the vendor may contain live explosives and could be hazardous to the public. ....
