We’ll have to pop the champagne for clinching the one seed another night. Despite leading by 11 at halftime, the Sixers ultimately fell, 103-94, to the Pacers, keeping their magic number at one for the first overall seed in the Eastern Conference. Philadelphia’s offense went completely stagnant in the second half, tallying just 13 points in the third quarter, and going nearly five minutes in the fourth quarter without scoring to watch a 92-88 lead turn into a 99-92 deficit. Sure, Joel Embiid didn’t make the trip for this game, and Furkan Korkmaz and Matisse Thybulle were out to injury, but Indiana was missing some key players themselves and the Sixers let one slip through their fingers. See you Thursday night in Miami. But first, Bell Ringer. ....

On the second night of a back-to-back against the tanking Pistons, the Sixers took the opportunity to rest starters Ben Simmons and Seth Curry. The full squad certainly wasn’t needed early on, as Philadelphia doubled up Detroit in the first quarter, 34-17. Despite shooting just 1-of-11 from 3 in the first half, the Sixers would maintain a double-digit advantage from midway through the second quarter on. The only downside was Matisse Thybulle looking to injure his left hand diving for a loose ball. Matisse briefly re-entered the game, but was reluctant to even touch the ball with that hand. Hopefully he’s OK moving forward, as the Sixers would prevail, 118-104. The team’s magic number is down to two over Milwaukee. Strong Bell ....

Yet again, the Sixers caught an opponent without a good chunk of the talent on their roster, as the New Orleans Pelicans were playing without Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram, plus a handful of other regulars. So when Philadelphia led by 17 points near the half, you figured it was going to be another empty the bench night. 25 minutes max for the starters, Daryl Morey tweeting out Paul Reed-related mud gifs, you know the drill. Instead, the Sixers gradually let the Pelicans back into the game over the course of the third quarter, and New Orleans would lead by as many as seven points in the fourth. Fortunately for seeding purposes, Philadelphia answered with an 8-0 run and would eventually hang on for the 109-107 victory. The magic number for the first overall seed is down to two over Brooklyn, and three ....

With Zach LaVine and Nikola Vucevic missing for Chicago, the Sixers looked like they were on their way to an easy victory Monday night. Philadelphia led by 20 points heading into the fourth quarter, until the Sixers’ all-bench unit allowed a 24-5 Bulls run in a five-minute span, ending the hope of the starters getting extra rest on the second night of a back-to-back. Fortunately, the top dogs pulled the team out of the skid, ending the game with an 18-7 push to win the fifth straight for the Sixers, 106-94. Philadelphia now sits a full game up on Brooklyn, plus the tiebreaker. On to Bell Ringer. ....

Another game, another shorthanded opponent for the Sixers. San Antonio was missing four starters Sunday night, and although Philadelphia led by as many as 17 points in the first quarter, though, the scrappy Spurs competed hard and gave the Sixers all they could handle. San Antonio kept chipping away and eventually tied the game in the fourth quarter at 102. From there, the Spurs matched each Sixers’ shot until Joel Embiid’s missed jumper at the end of regulation sent the game to overtime. ....
