The Strokes achieved massive chart success with
The New Abnormal after its release in April. The nine-track LP earned them their first No.1 debut on the
BillboardTop Rock Albums chart. As well, the record debuted at No.1 on the
Billboard Alternative Albums chart. The last time this happened for the Strokes was in 2011 with
Angles. Along with all of this, all of the songs on
The New Abnormal entered the Hot Rock Songs chart, too.
Earlier this week, they launched new merchandise inspired by their baseball uniforms worn in their futuristic video for “The Adults Are Talking.”

John Prine Wins Two More Grammys, After A Melancholy Year In Music

Nearly a year after he died from Covid-19 and just over a year after he was granted a Lifetime Achievement Grammy Award, the late John Prine hovered angelically over this year’s American Roots field with two Grammy wins on Sunday. His posthumously released single “I Remember Everything” was named Best American Roots Performance and Best American Roots Song, a songwriter trophy shared with Nashville’s Pat McLaughlin. Prine now has four career Grammys.
“The music community in Nashville and beyond, your love and encouragement has meant the world to us this past year,” said Fiona Prine, John’s widow, via live video link after the first win. “And to the fans, you span several generations now. Thank you for supporting and continuing to promote John’s words and music in the world.” The Prine sons Jack, Tommy and Jody had a brief chance to make remarks after the second award was announced. ....

Louisiana’s deep and diverse musical heritage will once again be on display Sunday night with the 63rd annual Grammy Awards presentation. A total of 17 Louisiana acts are nominated for 23 awards, representing musical genres from jazz and blues to Cajun, rap and gospel.
With pandemic precautions still in place, this year’s prime-time awards show from Los Angeles will be largely a virtual event. The show will be broadcast live from the Staples Center with no audience members in attendance, and most nominees will participate in the awards show via online connections.
