BI expects no upsurge in arrivals despite eased travel restrictions

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) is not expecting a high number of arrivals despite allowing more foreigners to enter the country.
“Despite the inclusion of other categories, we are not expecting a major upsurge since the number of arriving passengers remain controlled,” BI Port Operations Division Chief Candy Tan said.
Tan explained that arrivals will still be subjected to the maximum capacity of inbound passengers set by the National Task Force for coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Under the Resolution No. 98 of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management Of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF), aliens with working visa, student visa, Special Visa for Employment Generation and Special Investors Resident Visa which were issued prior to March 20, 2020 will be allowed entry starting February 16. ....

But BI Commissioner Jaime Morente clarified that other travel restrictions remain in place.
“We are still limiting the entry of foreign nationals, and tourists are still not allowed to enter the country,” he added.
The BI chief said current restrictions only allow the entry of accredited foreign diplomats and personnel of accredited international organizations like the World Health Organization (WHO) and those for medical and emergency cases.
Foreign spouse and minor children of Filipinos, children with special needs regardless of age of Filipinos, foreign parent of minor Filipinos, and foreign parent of Filipino children with special needs regardless of age will also be allowed entry. ....

MANILA, Philippines The travel restriction covering 36 countries with recorded cases of new variants of COVID-19 will be lifted effective tomorrow, Malacañang said yesterday.
“On Feb. 1, we will go back to our old status quo before we even implemented the travel restrictions,” Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles said over dzMM radio.
The countries covered by existing travel restrictions are Austria, Denmark, Ireland, Japan, Australia, Israel, the Netherlands, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Switzerland, France, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Lebanon, Singapore, Sweden, South Korea, South Africa, Canada, Spain, the United States, the United Kingdom, Portugal, India, Finland, Norway, Jordan, Brazil, United Arab Emirates, Hungary, China, Pakistan, Jamaica, Luxemborg, Oma ....
