Op-Ed: In Opposition of the PRO Act

One of the greatest threats to America’s economic recovery and future growth is currently being debated in Congress. The PRO Act, a bill which seeks to undermine workers’ rights to privacy and free association, would create a one-size-fits-all rewrite of labor laws in 50 states, hurting workers across the United States, including here in Loudoun County.
First, the PRO Act would eliminate Right-To-Work laws in all states, ending the sacred protection of a worker’s freedom to choose to join a union or not. Repealing Right-To-Work would force employees to either pay union dues or be fired, whether they wish to be represented by the union or not. ....

As legal and legislative battles pop up around the country over worker misclassification, a new lawsuit is seeking to restore a Trump-era rule that could decide the future of gig employees. (Photo: Shutterstock)
As was expected, the Biden administration formally killed a Trump-era rule on the definition of independent contractors under the Fair Labor Standards Act. On March 11, the Wage and Hour Division (WHD) of the Department of Labor announced it was withdrawing the rule, which was initially passed in the last few months of the Trump administration. While the new administration offered no immediate replacement for the rule, legislation passed in the U.S. House on March 9 offered a glimpse as to where the Democrats are heading. ....
