The museum is returning the sculpture, which was looted from a temple in the 1980s. The move comes after researchers raised concerns about its provenance.

A stone sculpture representing a Hindu deity is making its way back to Nepal nearly 40 years after it disappeared from a temple shrine and ended up in the Dallas Museum of Art.
For more than eight centuries, the sacred stele of Lakshmi-Narayana, a manifestation of the Hindu deities Vishnu and Lakshmi, watched over devotees in the Nepalese city of Patan until it suddenly disappeared, stolen by looters in 1984. Six years later, the eight-armed figure reappeared at auction at Sotheby’s, selling to a collector, who then lent it to the Dallas museum. ....

Incredibly Detailed Sculptures Out Of Scrap Metal By Alan Williams (56 Pics)

Brighton-based UK artist Alan Williams is a sculptor who is well-known for his ability to bend and handle metal that one would simply consider junk or scrap. Using recycled scraps, Alan creates some very incredible and detailed and mostly animal-themed sculptures. For the most part, though, his creative exploration began when he was still but a child. He started making fantastic hybrid creatures using old toys and a tube of glue.
The artist’s sculptures vastly vary in size, as some of the sculptures are more than life-sized and all of them are hand-made in his workshop garage. Most of his work revolves around making octopuses in various sizes, but Alan mostly makes them based on commissions, though he hopes to someday make one for himself too. ....

Dozie Kanu creates artworks that are disobedient and stubbornly slippery. They resist classification and exist instead as communicative or performative objects. These objects are filtered through a personal lens drawn from the artist’s lived experiences as a Nigerian-American and member of the diaspora, both anchored in a Blackness the poet Fred Moten describes, in his book ....

“I didn’t want them to sit politely on the pedestals,” Carol Bove said to me this past summer.
The sculptor was tiptoeing around a pile of crushed, tangled steel tubes, lying on the floor of her studio in the far south of Brooklyn. She’d reopened her workshop after a pandemic shutdown, and all around were the accouterments of art and industry. Forklifts and girders. Welders’ masks and hazmat suits. But there was also, rather incongruously, a shadow of a century past: a huge plaster replica o ....

The dreamlike concrete art of David Umemoto

Staircases lead nowhere; walls bring passages to an abrupt halt; ceilings appear without warning. In the surreal world of David Umemoto’s brutalist concrete sculptures, reality has little authority and imagination roams free.
Like many creatives during the pandemic, the Canadian artist was deprived of studio access for many months, forced to find new modes of creation. This prompted a period of exploration, ‘mental gymnastics’ and though the artist was well versed in planning his concrete sculptures on paper, he set himself a new challenge.  ....
