Amnesty International Australia’s Joel McKay has slammed the Morrison government’s ban on Australians returning from India as a “blatant breach of human rights”.
The Morrison government has implemented a ban on all Australians returning from India until May 15 and has threatened heavy fines and jail time for those able to breach the ban.
Mr McKay told Sky News both the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Covenant on Civil Political Rights – of which Australia is a signatory – declare the government “must allow Australians return to the country”. ....
