LONDON: Thousands of Sikhs marched in London city to remember the victims of the attack on Sri Harmandir Sahib, popularly known as the Golden Temple, in Amritsar by the Indian authorities in 1984.
Every year thousands of Sikhs gather in London to mark the anniversary of the ‘1984 Sikh genocide’ but last year was an exception due to the Covid-19 SOPs. This year’s march was organised by the Federation of Sikh Organisations (FSO), in which Sikhs from across the UK travelled to London to take part in the march to walk through the Central London before reaching the Trafalgar Square, where the marchers paid tributes to the martyrs of 1984 Sikh massacre. The march started from Wellington Arch, led by the Panj Pyare, the five beloved with their swords drawn, passed through the iconic route of the Constitution Hill and The Mall to Trafalgar Square.

Simon Stevens backs drive for St Paul's tribute on behalf of health staff as plans get green light

Generous Mail readers have stepped in to help raise the £2.3million needed for the oak portico, donating an incredible £65,500 in just two days. It takes the total already raised by St Paul’s to more than half a million pounds.
Backing the campaign, Sir Simon said NHS hospitals had treated 400,000 seriously ill patients with Covid-19 – which has claimed the lives of 127,524 across the UK to date.
‘Nurses, doctors, and countless other staff have witnessed first-hand the terrible toll this virus has inflicted,’ he said.

SNP's "chilling" hate crime bill passed | UK | News

He said: “Earlier this week, Hardeep Singh of the Network of Sikh Organisations said “if enacted, it will make Scotland one of the most hostile places for freedom of expression in Europe”. Wow. Surely so many voices being raised from so many sides of the political spectrum give us pause for thought?
“Only a few weeks ago, the Scottish Police Federation wrote to the Justice Committee convener saying there is substantial potential for many more people coming to adverse police attention as a consequence of elements of this legislation, regardless of potential freedom of expression provisions.
“If that is correct, there must be a risk that this bill as presented could have a chilling effect on freedom of expression.

It’s an understatement to say the Scottish Hate Crime Bill has been the subject of significant controversy.
Tomorrow MSPs will debate it one last time before it goes to a final vote. They must put free speech before party politics.

Letter to MSPs on Scotland's Hate Crime and Public Order Bill - Index on Censorship

Letter to MSPs on Scotland's Hate Crime and Public Order Bill
The decision to withdraw amendments on freedom of expression at the eleventh hour will have a chilling effect
10 Feb 2021
Dear MSP,
We the undersigned have serious concerns about Part 2 of the Scottish Government’s Hate Crime and Public Order Bill, and increasingly so in light of recent parliamentary deliberations.
Over the last year, there has been a robust debate about Part 2 of the bill, which outlines new offences on the stirring up of hatred. We all condemn crimes motivated by hatred and prejudice. The difficulty with this Bill, in its current form, is its potential to have a wider, negative effect on freedom of expression in Scotland.

Car rally brings traffic to standstill in Birmingham over Indian farming laws

THOUSANDS of people drove to an Indian consulate in Birmingham over the weekend in solidarity with farmers in India who are protesting against punitative agricultural reforms.
It comes after about 250,000 people in India went on strike last week in a standoff with the government over new farming laws which would allow privateers greater roles in the sector.
Birmingham is in Tier 3 — meaning that groups of more than six are not allowed to meet.
But thousands of people from across England joined the protest against the new laws that they say would ruin Indian farmers’ livelihoods.
The Kisaan Car Rally started at Guru Har Rai Gurdwara in West Bromwich on Saturday morning before participators — in trucks, tractors, cars and supercars — drove to the consulate.
