Body/Magic: Liz Cohen ASU Art Museum

Photographer Liz Cohen, a 2020 Guggenheim fellow and faculty member at ASU School of Art, explores issues of personal and cultural identity in this exhibit at ASU Art Museum. The artist assumes various roles in lowrider culture, including builder and bikini model, to challenge prevailing narratives about femininity and prompt conversations about “immigration, nonconformity, and resistance.” The exhibit includes the lowrider car Cohen built as part of her seminal “Body/Work” series. ....

Nearly two years ago, Wayne Franits centered his senior seminar class’ exhibit on 19th century painter Winslow Homer’s engravings. When it came time for him to teach the seminar again this school year, the Syracuse University art history professor decided to focus on children in art.
After a year of planning and researching, “Days of Future Passed: Children in World Art” will open on Thursday and run until May 24 in the Shaffer Art Building’s Wiezel Gallery. The exhibit will feature 21 pieces relating to children in different historical time periods, such as a 19th century Japanese photograph and a vibrant Dutch print created by painter Karel Appel in 1971. CU Boulder alum shares stories of personal art endeavors

Visual artist Rebecca Vaughn led a virtual lecture Feb. 17 which was hosted by the University of Colorado Boulder Arts and Art History Program. The lecture focused on her personal artwork, which addresses themes of relationships, femininity, and love through a mixed media approach.
Vaughn’s interest in art started as a student at the University of Colorado Boulder. Vaughn was a French major who was not interested in art until impulsively deciding to take an elective sculpture course.
“I just wanted to try something fun and different,” Vaughn said. “I loved the energy in the studios late at night and the community. I loved trying something I was bad at.” ....
