Where to celebrate St. Patrick's Day 2021 in metro Detroit (if you must)

The Old Shillelagh.
It was clear that the COVID-19 pandemic had hit Michigan around this time last year, with officials canceling Detroit s longstanding St. Patrick s Day Parade. A year later and the virus remains a threat: Detroit s St. Patrick s Day Parade is once again canceled, but the state has loosened restrictions to allow bars and restaurants to open for indoor dining again. Remember: gathering in a crowd without a mask is still dangerous, but if you re determined to drink a beer and eat a corned beef sandwich, we looked up to see what local bars are doing this year.
Events are on Wednesday, March 17 unless otherwise noted. Did we miss any? Let us know at tips@metrotimes.com and we ll update the list. ....

Climate Change Risk Regulation's Future for Insurers in America?

Friday, March 12, 2021
In the few short weeks since our last report on climate change and the US insurance industry, the volume of climate change news has been extraordinarily high. The range of developments has been broad to say the very least from fund managers announcing new offerings said to be green and sustainable, to critics denouncing fund managers falling short on sustainability, to Aviva, Citibank and Generali (and others) publishing sustainability achievements or new targets to achieve net-zero emissions, to advances by developers and providers of climate change standards and metrics (
e.g., the Geneva Association, Moody’s), to China reiterating goals to reduce its emissions over the next five years, to the politically charged debate within the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as to which comes first a new global framework of common metrics and standards to help regulators analyze climate change risk disclosures or stepped-up enforcement ....

Phosphogypsum and Wastewater RCRA/TSCA Action Petition Revived

Friday, March 12, 2021
On February 8, 2021, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) received a petition seeking a rule reversing EPA’s 1991 Bevill regulatory determination excluding phosphogypsum and process wastewater from phosphoric acid production (process wastewater) from hazardous waste regulation under Subtitle C of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). The petition also urges EPA to promulgate regulations under RCRA Subtitle C governing the safe treatment, storage, and disposal of phosphogypsum and process wastewater as RCRA hazardous waste. Under Section 21 of the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), Petitioners request that EPA initiate the prioritization process to designate phosphogypsum and process wastewater as high-priority substances for risk evaluation under TSCA Section 6, issue a TSCA Section 4 test rule for disposed phosphogypsum, and issue a significant new use rule (SNUR) under TSCA Section 5 for phosphogypsum used in road ....
