Searing heatwaves with record-breaking temperatures reaching nearly 50C have been frying the western US and Canada in recent weeks, wreaking havoc on communities and the environment.

Canada experienced its hottest day ever at the end of last month, when thermometers in the village of Lytton reached 49.6C – significantly above the previous national record of 45C.
Shortly after setting the record, Lytton was largely destroyed in a massive wildfire. Figures show nearly 500 sudden deaths occurred in the Canadian province of British Columbia that week, while hospitals saw a massive surge in heat-related health problems. ....

June 2021 is the 'Hottest June' in History of America With Recordbreaking Temperature


June 2021 welcomes the summer season with extreme heat and drought, surpassing warmest temperature records set in North America, according to European Union s Copernicus program new data.
The heat record measured by billions of observations from satellite, aircraft and weather stations around the world found that the month of June was the fourth-hottest month recorded worldwide and the second-warmest recorded in Europe.
The North-east region of Europe has warmed the most at its peak, while heatwave conditions remained in western North America which broke heat records.
