Dr Leonie Lockstone-Binney joined Griffith University in January 2019 as an Associate Professor in the Department of Tourism, Sport and Hotel Management. Leonie previously held the institute-wide role of Associate Dean (Research) at William Angliss Institute, Melbourne from 2015 to 2018. Leonie was also formerly Discipline Group Leader of the Tourism, Hospitality, Music and Events Group at Victoria University, where commencing as Lecturer in 2006, she was promoted to Associate Professor in 2014. Building on her PhD study of the management of volunteers and paid staff in the cultural tourism sector, Leonie s main area of research expertise since 2000 relates to volunteering, with a particular focus on event and tourism settings. Recently published visitor arrival figures indicate that Caribbean tourism has started down the long road to recovery. Following a disastrous 2020 during which governments closed borders to try to halt the spread of Covid-19 and months when the sector all but ceased operations, visitor numbers are now slowly increasing.
According to Tourism Analytics, the Aruba-based consultancy which publishes tourism arrival figures on a rolling basis, stopover visitors to the island Caribbean excluding Haiti declined by 66.1 percent from 23 million in 2019 to 7.8 million last year. COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCSC) - People are already booking their spring and summer vacations in cities along the South Carolina coast and industry experts and leaders say spots are going faster than originally expected.
