Article content Investing in programs to develop and invest in women-led businesses, particularly for minority women and single mothers, can act as the lever to raise these women and their children out of poverty. My work allows me to develop strategies to help make entrepreneurship a viable and attainable option for Black women and mothers across the country. We have offered weekend business development workshops with babysitting services included for free so single moms could participate. And, in COVID times, we’ve held virtual workshops after the kids’ bedtime to accommodate the realities of home life. Entrepreneurship is the best career path for many women. It offers them flexibility and independence. Since single mothers manage every aspect of the household, it’s hard for them to arrive at the office for 9 a.m. and to pick up the kids at 5 p.m. Employees must accept their employer’s decisions, even when they’re not in their best interest.
