The Leapfrog Group recently released its spring 2021 Hospital Safety Grades, assessing more than 2,700 U.S. hospitals on how well a facility prevents medical errors and other harm to patients. (Shutterstock)
AUSTIN, TX Several Austin area hospitals received top safety marks while others didn t quite measure up in The Leapfrog Group s annual spring safety grades released Thursday.
The nonprofit health care watchdog group grades hospitals twice a year, assigning letter grades from A to F based on each hospital s ability to protect patients from preventable errors, accidents, injuries and infections.
More than 2,700 general, acute-care U.S. hospitals were assessed for Leapfrog s Spring Safety Grades. Among those hospitals, 27 have achieved 19 consecutive A grades in every biannual grading cycle since Leapfrog launched the safety grades in spring 2012. ....

Travis County health officials say, yes. Immunity from the COVID-19 vaccine may last longer than the natural immunity you get if you ve already had COVID-19.
People who currently have COVID-19 should not be vaccinated until they have completed their 10 day isolation after testing positive for COVID-19. Once you have recovered from COVID-19, and are eligible, you should get vaccinated.
How effective will the vaccine be against COVID-19?
Different vaccines are proving to have different efficacy rates, Travis County health officials said. All currently authorized vaccines are extremely effective at preventing severe disease and death if you do contract the disease, and range from 70-95% effective at preventing disease altogether. ....

Austin area providers to receive larger COVID vaccine shipment this week


Austin-Travis County residents who are eligible to receive a coronavirus vaccination this week could have a better chance of booking a first dose appointment through local vaccine providers after Texas received its largest shipment of doses to date. 
The Texas Department of State Health Services by Monday released a list of every authorized Austin-Travis County vaccine provider who will receive some of the 1.5 million doses given to the state this week, for a total of about 46,540 first doses coming to Travis County. 
Gov. Greg Abbott last week announced that starting Monday, Texas would be receiving the 1.5 million doses of coronavirus vaccine from the federal government. ....

Coronavirus vaccine arrives at more Austin-area sites


Ten hospitals in Central Texas will receive initial shipments of the coronavirus vaccine Thursday, coming days after the arrival of the first vaccines in Texas.
University of Texas Health Austin became the first site in Austin to distribute the coronavirus vaccine this week, one of four facilities in Texas to receive the state s first 19,500 vials of the Pfizer vaccine Monday. 
The remaining Austin sites approved for the first week of vaccine distribution are: Seton Medical Center Austin, Dell Children s Medical Center, South Austin Medical Center, Dell Seton Medical Center at UT Austin, Austin State Hospital, North Austin Medical Center and St. David s Medical Center.  ....
